Ruby was different, always had been, always would be. She'd known since she was a little girl and she told her mother about the voices she heard inside her head. She'd always looked so worried when she would talk about what she heard the angels say, so she learned to keep quiet and pretend it was all just a phase, like they were just her imaginary friends. Anything to keep from getting those looks, like she had some kind of mental illness. Sometimes she thought she was crazy. Honestly, what person heard angels? None of the pastors and priest knew what they were doing. What made her so special?
She needed to get away, go someplace quiet for the summer, and Smallville seemed perfect. It was close enough to home that visits wouldn't be much of a problem, but far enough away to get a fresh start, to feel normal for once. Her first stop once she settled in? The Talon coffee shop. |
